140 online talks on family and local history will take place for free over the next ten days.

Popular online history event All About That Place will run from 27 September to 6 October.

First launched last year, All About That Place is a collaboration between the Society of Genealogists, the Society for One-Place Studies and the British Association for Local History.

It is a programme of ten days of free short online talks, tasks and activities about one-place studies.

A one-place study is defined as a study of the history of people and families in their context. This could be a town, a village, a street or even a building.

There will be 140 talks by 120 leading experts in the field.

All About That Place said the talks would cover topics “from Tupperware, tools and techniques to maps, Monopoly, mulberries and manors”.

The themes for the days are:

  • 27 September: Introduction
  • 28 September: Health and medicine
  • 29 September: Military and war
  • 30 September: Leisure and entertainment
  • 1 October: Town and country
  • 2 October: Innovation
  • 3 October: Politics and rights
  • 4 October: Tools
  • 5 October: Collections and archives
  • 6 October: Sharing your findings

There will also be a pair of Pacific Edition Talks at 00.00 British Summer Time/ 16.00 Pacific Time to make the event accessible to historians in Pacific time zones.

Talks will be broadcast on YouTube and participants will have access to a pop-up Facebook group.
