New MyHeritage feature makes old photographs move

You can watch old photographs of your ancestors come to life thanks to an incredible new photo feature from family history website MyHeritage.

MyHeritage Deep Nostalgia™ uses AI to animate the faces in still photographs, creating a video of them moving, blinking and smiling.

If you want to make old photos move, simply upload your photographs to MyHeritage. You will need to either register for a free MyHeritage account or log in using Facebook or Google. Uploading a photograph typically takes around 10 to 20 seconds.

Deep Nostalgia™ follows the launch of MyHeritage’s other popular photo tools - MyHeritage In Color™, which colourises black and white photographs, and MyHeritage Photo Enhancer, which enhances old photographs and brings them into focus.

The technology for animating the faces in photos was licensed by MyHeritage from D-ID, a company that specializes in video reenactment using deep learning.

Deep Nostalgia™ uses several different pre-recorded driver videos of real human gestures to direct how the photographs move.
